The emoji are only half the puzzle.
Every puzzle is a familiar phrase with some of its words missing, and the missing words are spelled out in emoji. Sound them out, do a little emoji-math — add one, take one away — and a phrase you already know falls out.
Emoji combine in predictable — though not always obvious — ways. Four operators do most of the work:
- 🐮 + 👦 → Cowboycombine
- 🌭 − 🐕️ → Hotremove
- 🦶 × 2 → feetpluralize
- 🍂 ÷ 3 → leafsingularize
Some emoji pair up by meaning instead — a small chip rides the corner of a tile and says what it makes of it, so 🔥 on 🍞 is toast. Those are Emoji Melds, and collecting them is its own game.
